“Death and Resurrection – The Body Snatchers” – by Alec Tritton
October 9 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Students at Anatomical Schools required bodies for their medical studies. The only legitimate source was hanged felons, but these were not enough and so a trade began in body snatching, probably the most famous “snatchers” being Burke and Hare. Where did these bodies come from? How were they transported? What was the price for a body and where did they end up afterwards? A grisly business explained in the years before the advent of Civil registration.
Alec Tritton has been a family historian for over 35 years. A former chairman of the Federation of Family History Societies and the Guild of One-Name Studies, he has lectured extensively in England and presented regularly at “Who Do You Think You Are-Live”.
