Family History Day 2016
Dorset Family History Society again hosted a ‘Family History Day’
As in 2014, we continued to commemorate the centennial of WW1 by remembering the events and our ancestors of the time.
Guest speakers were:-
Historian David Fletcher MBE, who worked at the Tank Museum in Bovington for many years, focussed his talk on the role of the Tank in WW1.
Sarah Paterson spoke about women’s contribution to the war effort, especially at home, something which affected every family in the land.
David Gynes talked on 'Starting your Family History' - particularly of interest to beginners.
Roy Stockdill gave 2 talks (am & pm) on 'Breaking Down Brick Walls in your Research'.
Attending were Family History Societies from other counties, organisations involved with Family History (Genealogy) and commercial firms selling aids to research and storage materials*. Our Help Desk assisted in your research (all free and friendly), books and DVDs were on sale, and volunteers were available to help with access to Dorset Family History Society’s extensive resources for both Dorset and elsewhere.
For the children there was a picture trail for the 7's & over (find the pictures placed in various points around the hall)
and a colouring table for the 6 & unders.
Whether you have researched your family history or have just started out on the trail of your ancestors this was an ideal event to visit. There is easy access within the venue and refreshments were on sale throughout the day.
