Education at Treetops

Whilst there are restrictions at Treetops  (due to Covid restrictions) we are unable to offer our range of courses or workshops.  We hope to recommence these in the Autumn 2021.   Please revisit this page regularly for an update.

Meantime, if you would like to register interest in one of our future courses / workshops, or have suggestions of topics you would find useful please Contact Us (select Education from the drop-down list) and we will register your interest and suggestions.

When we can re-offer these, our courses have practical hints and tips, handouts, where to go for more information, looking & working with examples of documents. We also make full use of the library & collections in the Treetops Research Centre.  You are encouraged to bring any of your own research with you so that we can discuss any problems as a group.

We will offer a beginners course to help get you started and to cover topics such as census returns, civil registrations and the GRO index.

Other subjects might include

  • Writing up your research
  • Using the internet for your research
  • Wills and Probate
  • Dating photographs

There is a charge for our courses. You do not need to be a member of Dorset Family History Society or have Dorset roots to attend our Courses.

There will be short breaks during each course for tea / coffee which will be available at a small charge.
