Introduction to Family History workshop

Our Introduction to Family History workshop is aimed at those who are starting or have recently started their family history research. We cover topics such as census returns, civil registrations and the GRO index. There is a presentation plus the opportunity to look at some sample census, birth, marriage and death certificates and discuss the findings.   We explore how to plan and organise your research and record your findings.

Workshops are held at Treetops Research Centre, Fleets Lane, Poole.  Members and non members welcome.  Places are limited (£7 per person including tea/coffee) and must be booked in advance.

Tracing your military ancestors online 

“Tracing your military ancestors online”   through presentation and document examples, will help you explore how you can use the popular websites (including Find My Past and Ancestry amongst others) to search for your military ancestors.  During the workshop you will find out where to explore records for Pre World War 1, World War I  (including Women in World War I), World War II and other conflicts and also medal records.

There is a charge for our courses. You do not need to be a member of Dorset Family History Society or have Dorset roots to attend our Courses.

There are  short breaks during each course for tea / coffee which will be available.
