Education at Treetops

Introduction to Family History workshop

Our Introduction to Family History workshop will be back in the Autumn 2022.     Aimed at those who are starting or have recently started their family history research, we cover topics such as census returns, civil registrations and the GRO index. There is a presentation plus the opportunity to look at some sample census, birth, marriage and death certificates and discuss the findings.   We explore how to plan and organise your research and record your findings.  Contact us to express your interest and we will let you know when dates have been arranged.

Tracing your military ancestors online

“Tracing your military ancestors online” is a new workshop for Autumn 2022.  Our guest presenter will,  through presentation and document examples, help you explore how you can use the popular websites (Find My Past and Ancestry) to search for your military ancestors.  During the workshop you will explore records for Pre World War 1, World War I  (including Women in World War I), World War II and other conflicts and also medal records.

The ‘formal’ part of the workshop will run from 10.00 to 12.30.  After a quick lunch break you will have the opportunity to put what you have learnt into practice by doing some of your own research using our facilities at Treetops.  During the afternoon session we will be joined by one of our volunteers with lots of experience of tracing her own military ancestors, who will be there to help you with your military research.    So make sure you bring your own research notes along!

Places are limited and must be booked in advance at £10 per person.  The session, including the workshop and research opportunity will run from 10.00 to 14.30.

To book, enquire about our workshops or register your interest by using the form on our Contact Us page (select Education from the drop down list).
