The Society has amassed a large amount of research materials. Some are transcriptions and some are original documents. Whilst the majority are records from Dorset, some material is available from other parts of the country.
The Research section of the menu bar shows what is available. They are not available online but can be researched at Treetops Research Centre
If you are unable to visit to conduct your own research, our volunteers will search our records for you.
- Please print off a copy of the Research Request Form, complete and return it (see below regarding payment) OR
- You may wish to request a quotation for general research via email (choose ‘Enquiries’ from the drop-down on the Contact Us) form or by post.
Our rate for up to 1 hours research is – £12
Monumental / Memorial Inscriptions look ups is £5
This includes the costs involved in emailing the results of the research.
Pay by Debit / Credit Card or PayPal through our shop, or by Sterling cheque, payable to Dorset Family History Society
If your query takes more than the time paid for we will contact you for instructions to continue and give an estimate of the further costs involved.

Virtual Research
We also have an opportunity for you to discuss your own research and seek some assistance from one of our research volunteers by either Zoom or telephone. Our volunteers, often working from home, will be able to discuss your research with you and use our digital resources to help you move forward.
Zoom or telephone sessions, lasting up to a maximum of 1 hour, are offered on a 1 to 1 basis and cost £5.00. Only 1 session can be booked at a time.
To take part:
- First, book your Zoom chat or telephone call in advance by visiting our Contact Us page and selecting Enquiries on the E-mail dropdown
- Then, visit our shop to make payment.
